There is a whole lot of pop music happening this week. But while there is a lot of pop, there is really something for everyone from punks to folk fans to people who love the ukulele. Another busy week begins with Golden based folk duo Broken Down Suitcase, who play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, May 20. Multi-instrumentalists Ben Caldwell and Eric Laroque are always a popular draw whenever they visit Lethbridge. There is no cover for the show.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge also brings in another popular draw— Fort St. James based quirky ukulele powered folk duo Twin Peaks, May 22. Lindsay Pratt and Naomi Shore were an immediate hit during their first visit last summer and won over a lot more fans at South Country Fair with their quirky humour and ukuleles.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge presents a different take on folk music when they welcome Nova Scotia raised musician Sahara Jane to the stage, May 23. She  combines folk music with Indian classical music and fusion.
If you want a lesson in the Delta blues, the Lethbridge Folk Club brings in a really special show to MJs Cycle, May 22 as Doc MacLean will growl and howl the blues as he tells stories about the places he’s been and the bluesmen he’s met in his travels during the National Steel Big X tour.

The show begins at 8 p.m., May 22. Tickets cost $25 for members, $30 for invited guests.
If you like your blues with a whole lot of rock, Paul Kype and Texas Flood return to Casino Lethbridge  this weekend. Or if you want to play, Steve Keenan hosts a blues jam at Honkers, Friday, May 22.

Punks have a pretty fine week as well with three, big, loud, raucous shows to look forward to.
The first show is May 21 at Inferno where Calgary drunk country punks Puttin’ On the Foil will be stopping by bring in the good times with lots of songs about drinking and fishing and having a whole lot of fun. They just released their new CD “Fired Up, Ready to Roll. They will be joined by Bob Scallywag and Seth Anderson.
Doors open at 8 p.m. there will be $10 cover.

The other big punk show is at the Moose Hall, May 23 featuring Edmonton based  oi/ hardcore punk/street punk band the Kroovy Rookers who released their  new EP “Better than A Kick in the Yarbles.”

They will be joined by fellow Edmontonians The Rhubarbs and Siksika Nation First Nations punk / metal band No More Moments. Doors open at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.

There is yet another punk show on May 22 at the Slice featuring the Ruby Plumes and Vancouver post punk/ Goth rock new wave band Flowers and Fire. They will be joined by new Lethbridge band Bummer Club.

Lethbridge’s favourite cover band the Chevelles play their monthly fundraising show at Average Joes, May 22. The Ridge River  Rescue Society will be this month’s beneficiaries. There is a $10 cover for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.

There are also a couple of shows on the more pop rock end of the spectrum. First up are Nanaimo based jazz influenced pop band Lovecoast who will be joined at the Slice, May 21 by Calgary indie rock band Windigo and Lethbridge’s own the Utilities. They will be joined by Lethbridge hip hop performer Sam MacKey  at 8 p.m. and Vancouver  via London, England nerd pop singer Kieran Strange at 8:30 p.m. There is a six dollar cover for the show.

The other pop rock show is on Monday, May 25 when Toronto pop band Zerbin play the Slice with Vancouver rock band the Gay Nineties. There is a $10 cover for that show.
For pop music altogether completely different from that The Southern Accord Chorus a cappella quintet will be singing your favourites at the Mocha Cabana from 7-9 p.m.
