Things are slowly picking up for the new year, though the live music scene is still relatively slow compared to how it has been the rest of the year.
A couple of excellent blues gigs will be highlights.
Lethbridge delta blues musician Papa King Cole plus Scott Mezei will be playing Plum, Jan. 9.
Cole just released his new CD “Gutted to the Studs,” which features Mezei on a couple of tracks. They will be playing around 9 p.m. There is no cover for the show.
Greg Gomola is hosting an ever popular Saturday afternoon open mic at Honker’s Pub from 3-7 p.m. on Jan. 9. Everyone is welcome to play that new stage.
The Mocha Cabana has an interesting show for accordion aficionados on Jan. 8 as they will feature classical accordion melodies.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge has a couple of pretty cool shows this week. Calgary based folk and roots musician Carter Felker will be playing the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Jan. 8. And On Monday, Winnipeg folk punk Greg Rekus returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
Local musician Bruce Roome will be playing the Owl on Jan. 9.
