“ I’m very happy we’re able to safely do live events again this year,” said Lethbridge Public Library Manager: Community and Economic Advancement Elizabeth Hegerat, noting Word on the Street was all online last year.

“So it was pretty quiet and lonely at the library last year, with just me and the technical people,” she said.

There will be a variety of  subject featured including First Nations issues, lots of comics and  graphic novels, mysteries, cooking and much more over the next couple weeks.

Events begin today with a Comics For the Young at Heart panel hosted by Local comic artists Eric Dyck featuring Gillian Goerz, creator of Shirley and Jamila’s big Fall; Winnipeg based Cree/Metis writer David A Robertson, creator of Version Control and his teen Reckoner  Series; and J Torres, creator of “Stealing Home.”

All panels will be available on Zoom. The Zoom meetings will also be available to watch on a screen at the library , where the University of Lethbridge Book Store will also be on the weekend.

Bryan Bradfield, Mary-Anne McTrowe and Alice Tinordi will be busking outside the library on Saturday.

There will be another comics panel on Thursday, Sept. 16 featuring Instagram comic author Aminder Dhaliwal on her new book Cyclopedia Exotica.

“ It’s a a comedy about if cyclops lived here,” she said.

David A Robertson will also be giving a presentation on his memoir Black Water: Family, Legacy, and Blood Memory.

Hegerat is also looking forward to United Kingdom author Mary Lawson’s novel “A Town Called Solace at 1 p.m. Sept. 18.

She is also looking forward to  Chef Trevor Lui’s Double happiness Cook Book: 88 Feel-Good Recipes and Stories presentation, at noon, Sept. 18.

“He’ll be showing the ingredients, telling stories and recipes,”she said, adding  going mostly online means  this year’s Word on the Street  includes presentations from authors from Alberta to France.

“That’s the good thing about Zoom,” she said.

More information  and registration for sessions is at http://thewordonthestreet.ca/lethbridge/

Ed Note: Due to Covid, all Word on the Street events will now just be online.
