Casa is slowly and cautiously reopening this month.
“I think people are getting tired of  doing things through a screen and are excited to have real life experiences again,” said the Allied Arts Council executive director Suzanne Lint.
“ But our priority is the safety of staff and patrons,” she emphasized, noting 168,000 people visited Casa last year, based on door counts. The University of Lethbridge Conservatory attracted 5,000 students last year.
“It’s a lot. It’s a very busy building,” she said.
“ We won’t be able to accommodate all of them at once,” she said.
The Allied Arts Council is excited to present new , albeit limited programming in the first reopening phase..
Registration for children’s summer camps  is this week.

“ But  while we had  40 last year, we’re down to seven now. We want to give kids an opportunity to make art”Lint said, adding the camps will teach single cohorts of children with one teacher per class. Each class  will  have between six to eight members.

“They’ll be working with both two dimensional and and three dimensional art,” she said, adding teachers will not be teaching more than one class and children will be  staying  in the same class throughout the week long camps.

Camps will run full days from 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.; Monday through Friday. Registration for the full-day camps will commence June 8, 2020. Please visit the Casa website, casalethbridge.ca, for further information.
Registration is open now and runs until  June 8. Camps begin July 6.
CAsa is slowly opening this month as well, though the community room and meeting room remain closed for now.
Casa will be open  to artists between 10-7 p.m. Everybody must book a time to use the facilities to ensure proper distancing happens.
Casa’s first art show begins  July 6.

Casa has already put out a call for artists for “The Summer Salon,” a group exhibition open to any artist with  works created over the  past two years.
“ It doesn’t have to be about Covid.  We’re hoping it will be more positive and a celebration of the arts,” Lint said . The deadline to submit is  June 11.
The Gallery at Casa will re-open July 6, 2020, with a community group show entitled The Summer Salon. Guests will be able to visit the gallery spaces at Casa by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Numbers will be limited to ensure appropriate social distancing. Call for submissions is available on casalethbridge.ca. To book an appointment contact 403.327.2272
