Covid 19 got the creative juices flowing during quarantine. In addition to about a dozen local musicians releasing CDs in the past few months, local visual artists have been hard at work.

The 68 artists’ recent works culminates in The Summer Salon, the new exhibit at Casa, which officially opened on Monday, July 6.

“We have everyone from emerging and self taught artists all the way up to academic and professional artists,” said Casa curator Darcy Logan.
The Exhibit, on all floors of Casa, runs until Aug. 21.

“So it runs all summer,” Logan continued, adding he was impressed with the quality of the art submitted.

“We weren’t even sure if we  were going to be able to open casa,” he continued, adding organizing the exhibit came together quickly.

“ So you might think it is juried, but it hasn’t been. About a quarter to a half of a the artists are new  to me,” he continued, noting each of the artists submitted one piece.

“I wanted our gallery to really celebrate the entire arts community, so the exhibit was not juried,” he said.

He noted the artists were inspired by Covid  itself as well as their response to being locked down during  the pandemic.

“ A lot of them definitely decided to respond to the Covid virus and their feelings of isolation while the world was shut down,” Logan said.

An upstairs cabinet explores the social justice issues that have also been happening including the police murder of George Floyd.

“We asked for recent works,” Logan said, noting the artists utilized a variety mediums including acrylics, oil, sculpture, photography, installation and much more.
Styles include abstract, impressionism, photography and realism.

People with health concerns can book a time between  10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday to look at the exhibit.
Casa doors are opened to the general public from 5- 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and  Saturday 11 a.m,- 4 p.m.
