Jamie has spoken as a

and Inuit Education" as well as topics such as Self Esteem, Empowerment,
Wellness, Violence Prevention, Young Women's Leadership and more.
Workshops are also presented on these topics.
At a young age she
started to Native Fancy Dance, and continued to explore different dance
styles. When she was 13 years old she was introduced to professional
modeling; and continued to model as a hobby throughout her life.
In
2001 she opened Niitsitapi Dreams Modeling School where she assisted
young women aged 13-17 in a program that built their self esteem and
opened their eyes to a variety of opportunities. (Niitsitapi means the
'real people'.) During this time she learnt a great deal about
organizing and choreographing fashion shows. In 2003 she was selected as
Miss Kainai/Lethbridge and was one of the first Native women to run in
Miss Universe Canada, in which she was awarded Miss Congeniality. Later
that year she was also selected as Miss Blackfoot Canada 2003; and
travelled throughout North America to represent the Blackfoot people.
She
was chosen as a Young Women of Distinction from YWCA (Young Women's
Christian Association) Lethbridge in 2003 and shortly after joined the
Women's organization advocating for women as a board member at YWCA
Lethbridge & district. Jamie was awarded an Esquao Award for Women
of Distinction from the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal
Women. Jamie became an advocate for women and children since she was a
teenager. In July 2007 Jamie was chosen to represent Canada in the
YWCA's World council held in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. She met over 2000
women from around the globe and when Jamie performed her Fancy Dance to
the Maasai drums, the audience certainly enjoyed a meeting of diverse
cultures. She currently sits on the YWCA Canada Board of Directors.
Jamie
has two degrees: Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of
Education, and currently working on her Masters of Education. After
graduating from U of L she became a classroom teacher at École St.
Mary's as an elementary teacher, and where she started a children's
Native Dance Troupe. The dance troupe is open to all the children in the
school, kindergarten- grade 6. The group is very diverse and does a
wide range of Native dances. The dancers have performed at many
conferences and school in the city of Lethbridge and surrounding areas.
Through this experience she has and the fortune of becoming a
choreographer, both for fashion, and dance performances. Jamie has
performed with artists such as Dallas Arcand, Dakota House and with
Jesse Farrell at the Peach Festival for over 15,000 people. Currently
she is on secondment of teaching and is working at Holy Spirit School
Central office as the First Nations Métis and Inuit (FNMI) lead teacher,
in which she is assisting staff in understanding and integrating FNMI
Education into their curriculum, working with children to assist them in
achieving their goals and dreams, building relationships with the
Kainai Board of Education/Piikani Board of Education, surrounding
communities and Holy spirit School division.

A southern style smokehouse where we smoke everything from brisket to chicken to ribs and seafood. A southern tradition right here in southern Alberta
Description
Serving up Lethbridge’s best and only TRUE smoked barbecued meats, The Smokehouse BBQ and Bar is a true southern style joint. The 750 lbs competition style commercial smoker and multiple wood blend for smoking is just two indicators of how serious we take our art. We also use only the best Alberta raised meats. This is not a place for small appetites, although they do have an arrange of vegetarian, gluten free and kids items. The food is delicious and the prices are modest.
The interior is styled after a contemporary roadhouse and features southern style music all day long from Johnny Cash and Stevie Ray Vaughan to the Rockabilly sounds of Brian Setzer and founding rock artists like Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. In addition they have a quaint patio for sipping ice cold brews with all your friends during the summer months and a wood burning fire place inside for the winter months..
Other than huge portions and lots of cold hand selected beer they also offer their specially selected whiskeys, bourbons and wines to suit your every need.
A colorful place with a lot of character…and characters. If all this isn’t enough be sure to check out The Smokehouse’s TV’s for all your sports and PPV needs. Plus check out their stage for live entertainment from time to time. Get on it!!!
How does our barbecue get so tasty????
We start by rubbing all of our meats with our homemade spice rub. Then after letting it marinade for 24 hours we cook it slow and low using a blend of real wood smoke. This is the secret that makes our chicken, ribs, organic brisket and pork shoulder fall apart in your mouth and so tasty.
Remember that true wood smoking will turn meat pink, even chicken, but will be fully cooked because of the long cooking time in the smoker. You can try our meat dry, no sauce, or wet with any of our unique, homemade barbecue sauces.
Music is a huge part of a Southern BBQ experience so check back from time to time for live entertainment.
Enjoy our southern tradition.
