Our Mission Statement: "The Lethbridge Community Band Society is committed to the prospect of enriching the quality of life in the City of Lethbridge and surrounding area by promoting the study and performance of instrumental music, with special emphasis on literature of the concert band and various forms of ensemble music commonly written for woodwind, brasswind and percussion instruments".
The Lethbridge Community Band was formed in 1987 to fill a void in the Lethbridge music scene; namely, to provide a learning and performance outlet for brass, woodwind and percussion players of all ages. 2012-13 marked our 25th Anniversary of offering music to Southern Alberta.
Since it's inception the Society has grown to become a valued cultural asset of Southern Alberta, having offered performances to hundreds of concert patrons, schools and students.

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

ARVAY/MIKULIAK BIO
Sheldon Arvay and Dave Mikuliak are both Saskatchewan born music educators who work in Lethbridge.  They have worked together in Music Departments at St. Francis Jr. High and G.S. Lakie Middle School.  Sheldon remains at G.S. Lakie, where he teaches Guitar, Rock and Pop, Recording Studio and other innovative, alternative music curricula.  Dave is just completing his first year as the Music Teacher at Chinook High School where he teaches Band, Choral and Music Theatre.  Dave and Sheldon have produced two CD's of Christmas music for voice and guitar - Sing To The Child (2007) and My Favourite Christmas Song (2010). They both are thankful for the support of their families with regard to allowing them the time to continue making music and performing.  They are also very thankful for the daily inspiration that they receive from the music students that they work with in schools.

LETHBRIDGE COMMUNITY SILVER BAND
The Silver Band was founded in 1988 a year following the start up of the Gold Band. It's role in the organization is to provide a learning and performance group to meet the needs of the 'rusty' or intermediate player looking for an opportunity for playing with more comfortable technical demands.
The group performs a minimum of four concerts a year as well as actively providing performances at many civic events.

LETHBRIDGE COMMUNITY GOLD BAND
The Gold Band was founded in 1987 under conductor emeritus Robert Cook. Since that beginning, the band has performed all over Southern Alberta. It is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for its commitment to providing music learning and performance opportunities.
The band has been active in commissioning and premiering compositions by Howard Cable, Elizabeth Rohm and David Squires. This band was the original founding band. While personnel have changed over the years, it is the Gold Band that has taken on a role of pursuing more demanding music, soloist performances and more advanced literature. Musicians in this band tend to be more interested in more challenging music and demanding performance opportunities.
