Mason Rack Band back with big opportunities

E-mail Print PDF

The next time you see Australian blues-rock trio, the Mason Rack Band, they might be opening for AC DC or Metallica in some big stadium.
They will be playing the Slice for about the fifth time, Aug. 31.
“You’ll enjoy it. I guarantee it,” said Mason Rack, lead singer/ guitarist and sometime drummer from a tour stop in Winnipeg. The mason Rack band returns to Lethbridge this week. Photo by Richard Amery
“If you aren’t satisfied with the show,  I’ll personally pay you back,” he promised.

They not only play fantastic blues rock music , but put on an impressive stage show which includes a massive percussion jam incorporating beer kegs, tables, chairs and anything else within drumming distance.

Thanks to an outstanding tour with the Grolsch Blues Music Festival, they signed with Shooter Promotions, which handles all sorts of heavy hitters like Metallica, fellow Aussies AC DC, plus Pink, Deep Purple,  the G3 tour including Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and many others.

“As soon as we got off the stage, there were managers and agents who wanted us to sign with them. But we took a breath and talked to George from Shooter Promotions and signed with him. They book all the big names. They’ll be booking us in Europe,” said Rack from Winnipeg, in the middle of their own headlining tour.
“It was awesome,” Rack said of their first tour of Europe.

They are planning on a tour with a big name in January or February and then will tour on their own in April or May, around the same time they hope to release a new CD.
In the meantime, Mason Rack is keeping busy.

“I recently got a new girlfriend, Tenille Jade. She is an excellent jazz singer, so I will be working on a new jazz project with her,” he said.
“My dad was a jazz guitarist, so jazz is pretty close to my heart,” he continued.

He is pleased with how far his music career has taken to him, but remains humble.
“I’d like to thank all of the people who have supported me ,” he said.
“ It can be an easy lifestyle to just stop doing,” he said.

People have really responded to “Hard Goodbye,” the first song from his most recent CD “Limits of Grip.”

“It has been awesome,” he said people have been responding to  not only to the more Tom Waitsish, jazzier number “Hard Goodbye,” but also the heavier “Beast,” which Rack has been playing live for many years.

“We’ve got 60 and 80 year olds who want to hear ‘Beast.’ I would have thought kids would have wanted to hear it,” he said adding  the song seems to appeal to all ages.
He is looking forward to returning to the Slice, Aug. 31.
“ It’s some of the best pizza you will find anywhere,” he enthused.
