E-mail Print PDF

It is a good week for big names from the ’90s coming to Lethbridge.
While the The Stone Temple Pilots have cancelled their show at the Enmax Centre with the Crash Kings, Sept. 18, there are still a couple excellent shows worth checking out.

Bluesman Daryll Düus releases his new CD on Friday, Sept. 21. Photo By Richard Amery

Everlast, who used to play with House of Pain back in the day and rappers La Coka Nostra most recently, brings his band to Average Joes, Sept. 20. He is known for solo hits like “What It’s Like,” and his Grammy winning duet with Carlos Santana on “Put Your Lights On,” his version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Ends.”
Advance tickets are $40 from Average Joes, Infamous, Boarderline and Long and McQuade. The show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Other highlights this week include Calgary

blues/ folk singer Erin Ross returning  to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Sept. 21 and the Mocha Cabana the next day, Sept. 22.

Redux plays a family dance at the Eagles Hall, Sept. 21 as well. Also on Sept. 21, Daryll Düus will be playing some blues rock music at the Slice at the CD release party for his long awaited new CD.

The Black Tomato Lounge will also rock, Sept. 21 with Calgary’s Last Man Standing, formerly Copper.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge welcomes Owls By Nature for a special Thursday show, Sept. 20. The Edmonton based folk/ roots band will share the stage with Riley McKinnon plus The Barefoot band.

And if you like the Drive By Truckers style alt-country, check out The Tom Savage Trio, who will be turning it up and rocking it out, Sept. 20 at the Slice.

And get in the mood for the Word on the Street, Sept. 23 in the blocks surrounding the library with  Mohawk poet and writer Janet Marie Rogers.
Most Vocal Poets bring Rogers to the Lethbridge Public Library at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19. She was born  in Vancouver, but has roots in the Six Nations territory in Southern Ontario. She writes about her native heritage, feminism, love, sexuality and spirit. She has written poetry, short fiction, science fiction plays and much more.

She will get you in the mood for the Word on the Street, Sept. 23 in the blocks surrounding the library.
Word on the Street is a day long celebration of the written word featuring live music, the University of Lethbridge Medieval Club, lots of authors, food and much more. It runs  from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
