The Vancouver based blues tinged punk duo of drummer/vocalist Maya Miller and guitarist/vocalist Becky Black are looking forward to coming back to Lethbridge to play the Slice, Oct. 4.
They released their latest CD “Unpersons” late last year, but have been releasing new tracks online.
“They are all kinds of different songs,” Black said.

“We don’t seem to stick with one genre, so it’s been a weird mix,” she said adding they haven’t really fit into Vancouver’s scene.

“There’s a lot of really good bands in Vancouver,” she said adding there is more to the scene than the prevalence of ambient indie-rock bands like Hey Ocean and Said The Whale. They began as a relatively laid back blues-rock duo, but morphed into an intense punk duo with a few elements of blues.
“I don’t think we ever fit in the Vancouver scene,” she said.
Not that it bothers the duo much.

“There’s a lot of diversity. There’s a few good punk bands and a lot of bands,” she said.
That doesn’t stop them from selling out a rare hometown show at popular Vancouver venue the Commodore, Sept. 24.
“It will be the first time headlining the Commodore,” she enthused before the show.

After that they are looking forward to their cross Canada tour, which brings them back to Lethbridge and all the way east to Moncton and back.
They were recently nominated for two Casby Awards by Toronto rock radio station The Edge 102.1— for favourite new artist and favourite new indie release.
“Any exposure is good,” Black said.

“Best new act. That’s funny because we’ve been playing for six years,” she said adding a lot of musicians  nominated in that category have been around for a few years..
Black said the Pack A.D. songwriting  is a 50-50 process.
“It’s pretty casual,” she said.

“ I write for fun. Some things start as a poem and we add music. Others start with the music. I hope I come up with something I like,” she said adding Maya Miller likes writing lyrics though because that’s her background.
They always enjoy playing the Slice.
“ I hope it will be full,” she said.
