He took some time off and travelled all over the U.S. and Mexico, seeing the sights, surfing and enjoying himself while developing the songs.

“ I was travelling around with the girl I was seeing at the time. I just wanted to see places I’d never been before,” said Mays from his Halifax home getting ready to bring his band on tour, which includes a show at Average Joes in Lethbridge, Oct. 27.

He wrote a lot of the new music for the CD on the ukulele, which he brought with him, though there is very little ukulele on the CD itself.

“I didn't have a guitar with me, just the ukulele, so not a lot of songs were written on guitar,” he said adding good songs translate to any instrument.

He also played most of the instruments on the new CD himself, though he got his touring band to contribute as well.

“ The response has been absolutely incredible,” he said.

“I had quite a few people. I didn’t play drums on it, but  I played quite a few of the instruments and my touring band played quite a bit,” he said.

He didn’t want  the new music to be trendy and he wasn’t concerned with the time it took to complete it.

“I look at a record as though it is like a painting. When it’s finished, it’s finished,” he said.

“He began an extensive two month cross-Canada tour leading into mid-November tour of 25 concerts on Oct. 10.

“I haven’t been to Lethbridge in probably five or six years. There’s definitely good people there,” he said.

“It (the show) will be full of surprises. It will be a good show. There will be some new songs,” he said.

“We’re all about having a good time.”

The show begins at 9 p.m., Oct. 27 with special guests The Meds. Tickets are $20.
