Greber, aka Cambridge, Ontario based grind/ crust band which includes well known Ottawa based  grindcore band F--k the Facts bassist Marc Bourgon and The Great Sabitini drummer Steve Vargas) tore a few ears off at Studio 54, playing a show in support of their new CD Hometown Heroin, May 29.Greber blasted the bass in Lethbridge, May 29.  While I missed Calgary punk band Reckless Heroes, Medicine Hat thrash band Evolux and couldn’t stay for the Avulsion,” I was fascinated by the bass and drums duo Greber. They played feedback drenched, thunderous bass chords and cacophonic, rapid fire machine gun drums, each taking turns howling into their microphones, providing an aural bludgeoning which had a hand full of people moshing. Bourgon knew how to control their feedback though, which is a rare skill these days.

It sort of sounded like stripped down death metal, but the vocals were a little more melodic and not as guttural, not that you could understand them, being drowned out by the bass and drums.

There weren’t as many people at the show as I thought there would be, but the 20 or so there were all into it, banging their heads in front of the band and ducking moshers.
