Canadian country star Chad Brownlee opened up Whoop Up Days , Aug. 20 with Trevor Panczac and Rough Stock opening.
Canadian classic rockers Honeymoon Suite, known for a string of ’80s hits including “Burning in Love,” “Stay in the Light” and “ Wave Babies,” to name a few, play Aug. 21 at 8 p.m.
Vancouver based classic rockers Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd Group will rock Exhibition Park, Aug., 22 with hits like “Hot Child In The City” and “Roxy Roller.”
Things will rock with local metal and hard rock band Rex and Glass Tiger on Aug. 23. Glass Tiger had several hits in the ’80s including “Thin Red Line,” and “Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone” and ”Someday.“
The Sweet will tear up Exhibition Park with Metallica tribute group Damage Inc. on Aug. 24.
But there is a lot more than just Whoop-Up Days this week. There is an array of music transcending all styles.
Late ’80s bad boys of rap 2 Live Crew come to Lethbridge to play the new nightclub Inferno on Aug. 24. It is located in the old firehall where Henotic used to be. Special guests performing include Terrell Safadi and Dilemma plus F -Bomb, Sin Sane and Spartans. Tickets are $15 for the show which begins at 9 p.m.
The Geomatic Attic is rocking it ’50s style, Aug 24 with rockabilly bands Bent 8 and Hurricane Felix. The event, a Love/Skate Relationship, will be raising funds for the Deathbridge Derby Dames Roller Derby team for practice venues and host events. Tickets cost $20. The show runs from 7-11 p.m. There will also be an art auction and a silent auction.
Vancouver indie rock band Behind Sapphire returns to Lethbridge as well to play the SLice, Aug. 26 with Calgary’s Boreal Sons. In a similar vein, Calgary based post rock band Jung People play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 22. Calgary indie rock/ alternative band the Implicate Order play the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Aug. 24. The Slice brings in Vancouver based indie rock band Tommy Alto Aug. 24. They sound like a mix of Radiohead and the Tokyo Police Club.
Saskatoon bluesman Tim Vaughn makes his first visit to Lethbridge this week as he plays the Slice, Aug. 23. Local musician Amy Bronson will be opening the show and releasing her new CD. There is a $10 cover for the show.
For more classically inspired pop music, America’s got Talent star Fernando Varela plays the University Theatre, Aug. 22. Tickets cost $55 for the show which begins at 7:30 p.m.
