So You Want to be a Singer? Relax your voice

E-mail Print PDF

The more relaxed you are, the better your sound will be. Breathe properly from your diaphragm and do not press your voice or push from your vocal chords. Too much strain can cause severe damage to the vocal folds over time.

Vocal nodes ( like pimples on your vocal chords) can develop, so take care of your voice with rest and relaxation.

Keep your throat lubricated with plenty of water. Not milk, juice or sugar drinks. They do not keep the throat clear, they plug up your air and sound channel ( your windpipe/trachea).

Keep your voice box warm. In dry, cold southern Alberta weather, the voice gets cold and fragile so warm up your voice for 10-20 minutes before you sing and do not push your vocals! Keep calm and sing on.
