It is always great to see a new band on the scene, so I made a point of arriving in time to catch a solid set of originals from Internet Love including “Cokehead” and “Loser” and a Modest Mouse cover, who opened a show at the Slice for Advertisement and the Ruby Plumes, Aug 9.
They had a good sized crowd of approximately 70 people, though not as many as I expected given the popularity of local punk bands Advertisement and The Ruby Plumes.
But Internet Love featuring Matthew Rederburg on bass, Cory Fischer on guitar and keyboards and Rebecca McHugh on drums and vocalist/ guitarist Rob Rice. Fischer pulled an old keyboard out from behind his amp and knelt down on the stage to play a song on it as they thanked the Ruby Plumes for adding them to the bill.
I couldn’t hear a lot of Rice's vocals, He was lost in the shadows and drowned out by everybody else. They sounded a lot like a more garage rock Weezer with quite a bit of influence from local garage rock band the Yeah Dads and ’90s type rock. They really appealed to the crowd who shouted out for an encore. That was impressive considering it was maybe their third official gig.
