It has been like six years since Toronto based classical/ jazz band Language Arts played Lethbridge. So it was great to see them again at the Slice, Saturday, March 21.
I just missed their first set and caught the entire second set which had a more plugged in, eclectic electric sound plus more of a pop feel.
Guitarist/ lead signer Kristin Cudmore, plugged in her Telecaster, but her prodigious classical style chops were still usually drowned out by keyboardist Joel Visenrin, who was also playing bass lines on the keyboards.
He added a strong ’70s progressive rock feel to the music along the line of Emerson Lake and Palmer and early Genesis . Drummer Neil McIntosh held down the beat on the drums.
You could hear some of those classical music chops break through the wall of keyboard sound.
Cudmore told stories about being single in her early thirties and joked with the audience about having to get back to Toronto. But not before she played some newer songs as well as songs from their last CD.
