While SOAR dominates the entertainment scene this week, there are also several choice shows happening in Lethbridge.
The week begins loudly and strangely with St. Thomas/ London, Ontario psychobilly freaks the Matadors, who play Inferno, June 3.
They will be joined by special guests including Nikki Valentine and Butch Haller and the Chesterfield Ramblers who may actually be the Matadors’ frontman Hooch Parkins playing a forgotten rockabilly legend performing rockabilly versions of ’80s hits. Tickets cost $10 for the show.
Doors open at 8 p.m.
Also on June 3, one half of Ontario/ Maryland rock and rollers the Weber Brothers’ Sam Weber stops by the Owl Acoustic Lounge for the open mic, May 3.
Brandon roots musician Shotgun Jimmie returns to Lethbridge this week when he plays the Owl Acoustic Lounge, June 4. He is getting ready to record a new CD on the east coast after the tour.
The Slice has a couple of big shows as well.
On June 5, the Slice hosts the last and tenth edition of the Fourth Wave Freaks zine release party.
Performers this time include Sophie Wright, rapper Heavy Knowledge, the Barefoot Hookers, punk band the Married Men and a Hedwig and the Angry Inch tribute. Admission is $10.
CKXU has a big show at the Slice this week as well as they present a special encore presentation of last year’s Love and Records highlights the Wet Secrets and Vancouver folk rock band Good For Grapes. Admission is $15.
There is also a more mellow all ages gig coming up as Dear Rouge plays the Gate with Star from Streetlights, June 9 form 7-10 p.m. admission is $15.
If you like country music, long missed outlaw country trio the Coal Creek Boys play Casino Lethbridge, June 5 and 6.
Other local shows are rock band Money Penny who play the Smokehouse, June 5 and Kite Fest at the Nikka Yuko japanese Garden features the Hibikiya drummers, June 6.
Inferno has a rap show with Gnarcotics with DJ Remy Stanbury and Will Snyder and DJ Streeter, June 5.
And for something fun, the Lethbridge Community Silver and Gold bands performs an Evening at the Pops, June 6 at the College Drive Community Church.
They will be performing all of your favourite movie themes and songs. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets cost $15 regular and free for 12 and under.
