Outrun the Arrow make debut with familiar faces and a new name

It is a wonderful feeling to see new bands forming and playing in Lethbridge. So I put my rock hat on to checkout a few of them at Pulse, July 7.
I caught most of Supernautic’s set of slow, tortured, grinding alternative rock and post punk music.

They included frontman Riley Foxcroft of excellent, more rock and metal influenced act Lock N’ Load.  The were powered by the tumbling bass of Kyle Johnson and a solid beat from drummer Jason Benson as Cory Bulpitt added  alternative rock stylings.

They ended their set with a couple of more metal styled songs.
The Youngbloods followed that with a set of pure  energetic pop punk straight out of the ’90s along the lines of Sum 41 and Blink 182.
Frontman Kyle Hogan leaped all over the stage with band mates bassist Geoff Markey and guitarist  Tyler Holt as drummer Jessie Goodfellow supplied the driving beat.

Hogan leaped all over the stage and was perched on the speakers by the end of  the set as an exuberant female fan got him to strip off his shirt.
They had the audience shouting along by the end of their set.
I was mainly there to see the official debut of local metal/ rock band Outrun the Arrow, who were quite popular several years ago under the banner NSR.

It was great to see lead singer Bridgette Yarwood and brothers Richard on guitar, Brendon on drums and bassist Brian Kostersky back together rocking a stage again.
Bridgette, as usual, showed herself to be a born front-woman, her vocals soared through Pulse, showing off her always impressive range.

And it was so cool to see Richard back on stage as he sustained a very serious injury several years ago and a had to teach himself  how to play guitar again. So it was just great to hear him perform at all, let alone play so well.

Their set included a lot of old NSR songs as expected, plus a more funk infused new song called “Ways of the Heart” featuring a wickedly funky bass line from Kostersky.
They followed up that by amping up Cyndi Lauper’s ’80s power ballad “ Time After Time.”
they wound down their set with “Crashing Down,”  They officially ended by tackling Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” but were called back for an encore. So they played  a couple Led Zeppelin songs.Youngbloods Kyle Hogan gets the audience to participate at Pulse, July 7. Photo by Richard Amery
They put their own twist on “Whole Lotta Love,”which ended up in a bit of a train wreck but segued into a hot version of “ Rock and Roll” to end their set.
