Freshfest among highlights of a busy week

Back to school events provide the highlight of the week for returning students. Freshfest happens at at the University of Lethbridge, Sept. 10.

Performers include Riley Miller aka DJ Millz Skillz, the AWD Fellows, Silkstones, Fernie stoke folk group Shred Kelly, the always popular Calgary rockers the Dudes and Thunder Bay based chart topper Coleman Hells plus the always entertaining Mother Mother.
Before that, Attainable Records features a heavy show, Sept. 7 with Anchoress, Exits, Witch of the Waste and With Gorgon Arms. The show begins at 8 p.m.  There is a $10 cover.


 For something completely different, traditional country musician Floyd Sillito plays his monthly noon hour show at the Lethbridge Public Library at noon, Wednesday,  Sept. 7.


 Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters play their own brand of roots rock and rockabilly at Average Joes, Sept. 8. Tickets are $50. The show begins at 8 p.m.


Jesse and the Dandelions, aka Jesse Northey and bandmates, drummer Conner Ellinger and bassist Daniel Sedmak return home to play  the Owl Acoustic Lounge in support of their new CD “True Blue.”
 Because it is a special event, there is a $10 cover for the show which also includes Jom Comyn and local bands Biloxi Parish and the Mormon Girls.

If you want to laugh, Vancouver improv show the Comic Strippers returns to the Yates Theatre, Sept. 9. Pete Watson and Joel Bryant return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge  the next day, Sept. 10.
Tickets are $44.

 


 It is a busy weekend.
 Just outside of town, the Coaldale Inn is reopening with local country/rock band the mark Hall Band playing Sept. 9 and 10.
 Local blues rock band Driving While Blind plays Casino Lethbridge, Sept. 9 and 10 as well.


 And the Lethbridge Folk Club has their first monthly open mic of the season, Sept. 9  at Casa. So check out some great local talent there. Donations will be taken at the door to cover room rental. The open mic begins at 7 p.m. As always Honker’s Pub has an open mic from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
There is a listening party at Blueprint Records, Sept. 10 where you can here new music from local duos betterhalf and Sparkle Blood. The event runs 7-9 p.m., Sept. 10.
Last, but not least, local roots and country singer Karen Romanchuk returns to the Mocha Cabana to play, Sept. 9 from 6-9 p.m.
