Lethbridge is a great little city.
Like most cities Lethbridge has issues with crime and trouble but the community, especially the music community will always come together to lend a hand when one of their own needs it.
The community came together for a super successful crowd funding campaign to help build the Owl Acoustic Lounge‘s new stage in their new location.
And when talented singer songwriter and new resident Richard Inman got ripped off while playing a gig on the weekend, the community came together to put together a joint, short notice joint fundraiser at the Owl Acoustic Lounge and The Slice which raised $3,000 for him through donations and a silent auction.
Both venues had live music, silent auctions and were accepting donations.
A variety of items were donated including local art, gift certificates, CD packages, guitar pedals and a lot more.
The Owl Acoustic Lounge was packed as expected. They turned their weekly open mic into a fundraiser, featuring an all star line up of local performers playing three songs each.
I arrived in time to hear the last couple songs from John Wort Hannam. He wound up his solo set with a song which he wrote for his son called “ Hurry up Charlie.”
The Dark Wrangler’s Don Cassell and upright bassist Dil Jopp were up next playing a couple Dark Wrangler songs. Jopp also sang one of them.
Ryland Moranz, whoi played three local shows in the past week, played his three songs on banjo.
Shaela Miller and Tyler Bird were still to come, but I wanted to see what was happening at the Slice.
Gabe Thaine’s High Level Variety show was turned into the fundraiser.
Jolene Draper and the Inquisitive Few, Draper,
Braeden Rouse, Steve Martin, and Keenan Pezderic on drums were warming up with some funk and some Janis Joplin as the people started trickling in from the Owl Acoustic Lounge.
