An appreciative audience, mostly waiting for local favourites Starpainter to take the stage, dug Amy Nelson in the dark.

Her southern twang brought the audience to the vintage country sounds of the ’30s and ’40 though it was also reminiscent of Sue Foley.

Watson’s steel guitar added a spooky air to the music.

Nelson has been working on new music and played a few songs for the audience including “I Want to be your Baby” and laid down a mellow groove on a groovy old blues song — Canned Heat’s “On the Road Again,” which suited her spooky sound.

She ended her set on another bluesy note with more groove on  blues classic “Smokestack lightning.”
