Lots of laughter and live music on deck to open February

 In honour of Howard Hesseman, who played Dr. Johnny Fever on TV Show WKRP in Cinncinati — “It’s time for this town to get down.”

February begins with  live music as usual, but because of Covid, things are subject to change.

 Some things have already been postponed  including The Glorious Sons and  J J Wilde who were to rock the Enmax Centre on Feb. 3, instead they will rock the Enmax,  June 18.

 The Yates Theatre was to be home to Friends the Musical parody, Feb. 5 , but the show has been postponed to June 17.

 And the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra’s  Feb. 7 Centennial Organ Concerto has been postponed to next season.

 

As always, there are plenty of open mics beginning at the Owl Acoustic Lounge tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 1.

 It is Jazz Night at the Watertower Grill and Bar on Wednesday as usual from 6-8 p.m..

Okinawa born, Calgary based  multi-instrumentalist Kaley Kinjo returns to the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 5. He will be performing at 6:30 p.m. and  7:30 p.m. each night.

 Kinjo  played the Lethbridge Jazz and Blues Festival back in 2019. Performances are free, but admission to the  Winter Light Festival is additional.

The Bridgette Yarwood band returns to the Slice, Feb. 4, playing all of you favourite rock, pop and even blues hits. They will be performing with local Tragically Hip tribute The Hip Trip beginning at 8 p.m.

 They will be at Honkers Pub to host their open mic, Feb. 11.

 

 But this week, Circle Ridge Country host Honkers Pub’s open mic, Feb. 4 while Karen Romanchuk hosts Honkers’ Saturday afternoon open mic at 5 p.m.

 

There are a couple of eclectic shows downtown on Saturday, Feb. 5. Calgary jazz/rock/ experimental band l’omelette, featuring Peter and the Wolves Pete Cormier on drums and saxophonist Megs “benedict” Thompson returns to the Slice, Feb. 5. The duo have a busy weekend in southern Alberta as they will be performing with Peter and the Wolves at the Empress Theatre, Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30.

 

 And Taylor Ackerman’s Global Acid Reset returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge with The Dark Wrangler, Saturday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m.

Everybody could use a laugh these days.

 The Snowed In Comedy Tour, featuring Debra DiGiovanni, Pete Zedlacher, Dan Quinn and Paul Myrehaug is just the ticket at the Yates Theatre, Feb. 4. Tickets range from $34.25- $50. The laughs start at 8 p.m.

Drunk Improv returns to Didi’s Playhaus, Saturday, Feb. 5. Drunk Improv Swipe Right for Love edition begins at  at 7 p.m. Admission is $15.

 Good Times Features Nick Burden , who performs at 8 p.m., Feb. 4 and 5. Tickets are $16.67.
