March opens with excellent shows

E-mail Print PDF

I’m on a boat enjoying the Outlaw Country Cruise this week enjoying watching American Aquarium , the Supersuckers, Emmylou Harris, The Beat Farmers and Asleep at the Wheel and many more great acts this week, probably somewhere between Belize and Cancun when this appears. So I’m having to write a couple of weeks in advance.

But there is still a lot of fantastic music happening in Lethbridge.

So bearing in mind that while health restrictions have been lifted as of March 1, Covid is not over, no matter who tells you that it is, therefore the schedule is subject to change and some of this week’s shows haven’t been announced yet.

I am sorry to miss a couple excellent local shows at the Owl Acoustic Lounge.

Eamon McGrath spent Covid recording an experimental new album, “Bells of Hope” which reflects a more ambient, laid back feel, and hopeful feel. He’ll be playing it with a three piece band, March 4 at the Owl Acoustic Lounge with Biloxi Parish.

Edmonton’s Alex Vissia explored her pop and dance side on her new album “ With Pleasure”. She’ll be bringing  a six piece band to the Owl Acoustic Lounge with  Carl Glacier.

Before that Shaela Miller’s Youth Songwriting Camp will be  having a showcase of students and some of the mentors from 7-9 p.m. at the Owl Acoustic Lounge. Admission is by donation.

A  new open mic begins at Mojos Pub on Monday with host Luke James Bruce.

Casa is beginning a new noon hour classical music concert series on Wednesday, March 4. Lunch and listen features vocalist Lisa Mulgrew and  pianist Cheryl Emery-Karapita.

If you love contemporary dance, Ammena Dance brings back  An Explosion of World Dance and Music to the Yates Theatre, March 5. The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickers are $35.

And Connor Christmas returns to Lethbridge to play at Good Times, March 4 and 5 as well as the Canadian brewhouse, March 3.

The Windy City Opry Revival returns to the Slice, March 4. Brooke Wylie and Lucky Sonne will be performing.  Admission  is $10.

Unfortunately Five Alarm Funk has cancelled their March 1 at the Slice.

But get ready to move with the New Testaments, who are scheduled for March 5.

And honkers pub has a special fundraising concert happening March 4. The Baker Family lost their home in a fire. So local bands Rebel Angels, Coda, Detour and the Bridgette Yarwood  band will be playing to help out. There is a $15 cover.
