Ukraine fundraisers plus punk rock and roots music this week

Welcome to March and another exciting week of live entertainment in Lethbridge.

 There are two big fundraisers for the Ukraine happening this week. 

 The Lethbridge Community band Association features a big event  at College Drive Community Church, on Saturday, March 12. Mark Ward will be conducting the Gold band and Dr. Josh Davies will be conducting the brass band. Admission is by donation through LCBS website lcbs.ca which will be transferred to the Red Cross’ relief efforts. There will be tax receipts issued for donations over $25. The concert begins at 7 p.m. 

 

 The next night, Sunday, March 13, local artists unite at Didi’s Playhaus for a fundraising concert  for the Ukraine at Didi’s Playhaus. Entry is by cash at the door. The show begins at 6:30 p.m.,

 

 The music begins tonight, Tuesday, March 8 with a blues jam at the Slice, hosted by Gabe Thaine beginning at 8 p.m. 

 

 If that’s not enough jamming, wander down the block for the Owl Acoustic Lounges’s usual Tuesday night jam. The Slice’s weekly open mic is on Thursday.

Wednesday is usually jazz night at the Watertower bar and Grill. Randy Epp and Andrea Gedrasick will be performing  from 6 to 8 p.m.

 

 If you want to rock, Old School has a three night run at Casino Lethbridge, March 10-12.

It’s a big birthday weekend at the Slice.

 I Can‘t Drive 55  Birthday Bash for Mike , Lisa and Robin is at the Slice on Friday.

 It features performances by Mike Lowe and Jackie French performing at 8 p.m. followed by the Steve Keenan band featuring Paul Kype at 9 p.m. Admission is $10.

 

Edmonton based alt country icons Jr. Gone Wild return to Lethbridge to play the Slice on Saturday, March 12, hot on the heels of their hot new album “Still Got the Jacket.” Local country band Badlands open the show at 9 p.m.

 Admission is $20.

 

 The Owl Acoustic Lounge embraces their roots this weekend.

 Winnipeg born, Calgary based blues musician Dwayne Dueck hits the stage with Richard Inman, Friday March 11.

 

 Calgary roots/ country trio The Carter Felker Trio and Amy Nelson play the Owl Acoustic Lounge’s stage on Saturday.

Honkers Pub has a couple of  open mics on the weekend.

 

 Local country band Circle Ridge Country host the open mic on Friday, March 11.

 The next afternoon, the Trippy Hippys host the afternoon open mic beginning at 5 p.m.

 

 If you want to laugh, Mike Dambra returns to Good Time to bring the funny, Friday, March  11 at 8 p.m. and Saturday March 12 at 7 :30 p.m. and 9:30  p.m. each night. Tickets are $22.30.

 Looking ahead a little, get ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a few days early as the Real McKenzies return to rock the Owl Acoustic lounge, with the Edmonton’s Real Sickies and the Hockey Moms. The fun begins 8 p.m.

 Tickets are $25 at the door.
