The Gazebo, Cirque du Soleil and lots of music this week

Weeks preview May 24

Some people get long weekends. Not if you’re in the arts.

 This week features two big shows happening.

 Cirque Du Soleil’s family show Ova is at the Enmax Centre, May 27-29. The Friday show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $58-$169 for adults; $48-$112 for children age 6-12 or family packs for $64-$118.50. The Saturday shows are 3:30 p.m.. and 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday shows are 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. 

 

 The other big show is Hatrix’s Theatre ’s presentation of The Gazebo, which runs at the Moose Hall, May 25-28. Tickets are $20 at Casa. The show is at 7:30 p.m. every night.

 

 Another big event is Asia History Festival at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association Multicultural Centre, Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

 

 There will be vendors, cultural exhibitions from the Bhutan, India, Indigenous Community, a Filipino Fashion show and Belly dancers from the Ammena  Dance Group, food and more. There is no charge to attend to event.

As usual, there are plenty of open miss and live music throughout the week.

 

The Owl Acoustic Lounge’s open mic is tonight, Tuesday, May 24.

 

 The Slice has a special jam for Hunger in Thursday, May 26 with host Gabe Thaine. 

 Gabe Trainee and friends kick things off at 8 p.m. They will be accepting donations for the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen with the jam following at 8:45. He has a busy week as he is also part of  the Band Formerly Known as Karen, Lewis and Pam, who have a special kids show at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the Prairie Pitfall Rescue.

 

Danali host. Honkers Pub’s open mic on Friday, May 27.

 

Local bluesman hosts the afternoon open mic at Honkers Pub, Saturday, May 28 at 5. p.m.

It will be a fun week of music.

 

 Hamilton folk/ punk musician Eamon McGrath returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on May 27. Admission is by donation.

 

 And The Ryland Moranz band return to the Owl Acoustic Lounge the next night, May 28. Starpainter open the show.

 

Things get funky at the Slice on May 27 with Vancouver rage funk band Raincity, playing their Lethbridge debut on their first cross -Canadian tour in support of their new CD “ A Proper Latte.” There is a $15 cover.

 

 Things also rocks at Casino Lethbridge with Red Mile High who will be playing all your favourite heavy ’90s hits from Metallica to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

For comedy this week, Thursday is Ladies night at Good Times. Edmonton comedian Elisia Snyder and  Erin Wood will be making you laugh at 7 p.m. Tickets are $16.67.
