Get ready for a rockabilly riot

E-mail Print PDF

The Geomatic Attic is going to party like it is 1959 on July 4.
Mike Spencer is presenting a ‘rockabilly riot,’ in the parking lot  (#70-491 W.T. Hill Blvd. South) with three of Canada’s best rockabilly bands — Calgary’s Eve Hell and the Razors, Hurricane Felix and the Southern Twisters and Vancouver’s Cousin Harley featuring Paul Pigat. Local rockabilly trio BeBent 8 opens

Amerynt 8 will open the show at  approximately 4:30 p.m.

“I’m friends with (sound man and Sound Shop owner) Dino Caravaggio (of local rockabilly trio Bent 8) and I’ve always liked rockabilly music, so I asked him who was playing it today,” said Spencer, adding he also fostered a strong friendship with Paul Pigat after seeing him play with Ndidi Onukwulu in 2009 at the Attic. Pigat returned as Cousin Harley  that same year as well.
“The benefit for the Olympic  athletes last year was so successful we wanted to make it an annual event, but for a different charity. So this year it will be for Free The Children. They help empower and educate children. They’ve built over 600 schools since  forming 15 years ago, ” Spencer continued adding  helping out that organization is an added  bonus, the main thing is  for everyone to come out and have some  fun at a big outdoor party.

“I’m hoping we get good weather and a good turnout. Our aspirations are more to put on a good party and whatever is left over after all of the expenses and bands are paid, goes to Feed the Children. My goal is to have 200 people there,” he continued adding the Rockabilly Riot will also be a chance to get a preview of Street Wheelers weekend, as there will be classic hot rods on display at the  Rockabilly Riot.

The Kinsmen will be back again this year running the beer gardens and food  sales, like last year, there will be local merchants. Because it takes place on a Sunday, doors open at 4 p.m. with Bent 8 at 4:30 followed by Eve Hell and the Razors at 5:30  p.m., followed by  Hurricane Felix and the Southern Twisters at 6:30 p.m. Cousin Harley is on at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets cost  $35 in advance, $40 at the gates and there is a discount for Geomatic Attic members. Or  you can get a package of 10 for $300.
