A good sized crowd turned up at the Slice, Sept. 29 for the Amanda Tosoff Quartet.
I arrived at the tail end of the show in the middle of one of several saxophone solos.
Tosoff supplied plenty of subdued organ playing, letting her stand-up bassist, drummer and of course saxophonist shine on solos throughout her set of instrumental jazz.
The audience included an eclectic mix of the local jazz scene as well as a few of the more metal minded individuals, all of whom were digging the groove.
The bassist was superb, providing a slinky groove.
All of them were excellent musicians, so Tosoff was content to let them shine while she supplied the musical foundation for them to build upon.
