 Braden Lam

Indie-folk artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia ???????? Homegrown organic sounds since '98

To find oneself in a strange paradise means to explore the depth of feelings between wild abandon and poignant despair—you might call them peaks and valleys, or ups and downs, or ebb and flow. Another word for it? Love.

On Strange Paradise, Canadian indie-folk upstart Braden Lam explores a relationship in its entirety, an independent redemption story that takes his lived experience and expands it into a fictional narrative that traces the early blush of infatuation to the hard-won moment of acceptance that it’s over. After multiple singles with Colin Buchanan, on this project Lam has added producers Daniel Ledwell and Joshua Van Tassel, and co-writers Adelle Elwood (aka Keeper E.), Blanche Israël (Jeremy Dutcher), and Jordan Coaker (of Quote the Raven) to the team. While too many cooks can make a record sound disjointed and wandering, here Lam pulls his collaborators into a cohesive album that keeps his lyrical prowess, honey vocals, and catchy melodies as its center, while nudging out toward the margins with lush arrangements and surprising darkness. Much like the record's theme, this approach strikes a unique balance between experimental naivete and the ever-familiar comfort sounds of Canadian folk and rock. This project has already garnered 2 x ECMA and 3 x Music NS Award nominations in 2023 including Song of The Year and Folk/Roots Recording of The Year.

Mia Kelly

Singer/songwriter, based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Blending folk and rock with soulful blues.

Mia Kelly is a singer-songwriter from Gatineau, Quebec who writes and performs in both French and English. Mia enthralls listeners with a distinctive blend of Folk, Rock, and Blues and is making her mark in the Canadian folk music scene. Swiftly gaining recognition as a poetic lyricist with a powerful and versatile voice, Mia is a born performer who radiates confidence on stage. With her knack for adapting the stories of the people she has connected with in her life, Mia is an imaginative storyteller who channels her raw and vulnerable emotions through her expertly crafted songs

In August of 2022, Kelly released her first album “Garden Through the War”. Produced and mixed at Fixed Hinge Studio by Ottawa’s Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards, The Tragically Hip) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Phillip Shaw Bova, the record demonstrates maturity in Kelly’s songwriting. Exploring themes of resilience and growth that follow hardship, the album has received recognition from the SOCAN foundation and has been nominated for Album of The Year at the Folk Music Awards 2023. This year, Kelly was awarded Emerging Artist of the Year by Culture Outaouais, was nominated for the CMA Artist of the Year, and represented Canada as a finalist at the 2023 Jeux De La Francophonie.

This year is a big one for Mia, as she takes on a cross-Canadian tour; Ten dates on the West Coast with Halifax-based Indie-Folk artist, Braden Lam, followed by 3 weeks on the East Coast with her fan favourite collaborator; Nick Loyer.

Tyson Ray Borsboom:
Canadian singer/songwriter Tyson Ray Borsboom has created intricate portraits of love and life in the modern world using little more than his trusted acoustic guitar for accompaniment. Between his inspired songwriting describing loss, redemption and his charismatic live performances, it won't be long before he is recognized in the national indie music scene. After spending years honing his craft, Tyson has recorded an EP, LP and a number of singles, with a plethora of different talented producers/engineers. Catching the attention of folk music fans across Canada and opening for artists such as Field Guide , Craig Cardiff , Mike Edel and Okay Mann.

Teaming up with Phenix Warren in early 2022, a multi-talented artist, producer and engineer (working with the likes of Heather May and Wyatt C. Louis) they began working on a four singles leading into an upcoming EP released in summer 2022). This new wave of singles with Phenix will represent a new birth for Tyson into a new sound for this up and coming indie folk musician.
