April rocks with April Wine and lots of roots music this week

As always, there is a lot going on in Lethbridge this week.
 Canadian classic rock band April Wine return to Lethbridge to play the Yates Sterndale- Bennett Theatre, April 6, however tickets are moving fast for that show.

 If you want to rock, Red Ram returns to the Slice to play an April 7 gig with the New Weather Machine and Stef Lang.


There are several superb roots and country shows this week on April 5.
The Coal Creek Boys and Big River the Johnny Cash tribute will be playing Average Joes, April 5. TIckets are $15
Ottawa Valley based singer songwriter Brock Zeman considers himself to be proudly eccentric. He returns to Lethbridge to plays the Geomatic Atrtic, April 5 with Canadian country musician Tim Hus.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $27.50.

For more traditional bluegrass/ folk/ country, check out Oh My Darling who return to the Slice, April 5 hot on the heels of their new CD  “Sweet Nostalgia.”

They completely embraced the title of the new CD “Sweet Nostalgia,” by recording it in a house made out of straw bales in Roseland, Manitoba and by adding a lot more traditional numbers rather than the upbeat originals they are best known for.


“We’ll play a couple of sets and get some toes tapping. It’s going to be a lot of fun. And it’s our bass player’s birthday,” she said.
 The show begins at 9 p.m., April 5. There is a $10 cover.


 


For a taste of the UK, Sea + Air make their first visit to Lethbridge at the Diaz Restaurant 635 13 Street North
 Sea+ Air are  Daniel Benjamin and his wife Eleni. They combine indie pop sensibilities with classical elements and a lot of instruments. Daniel plays vocals, concerto guitar, drums, cymbals and bells and Eleni, a Greek Folk dancer who plays  harpsichord, organ bass pedal drums and vocals. They have toured with an array of artists including Sufjan Stevens, White Stripes, Flaming Lips and even opened Big River— The Johnny Cash tribute returns to Lethbridge, April 5. Photo by Richard Ameryfor Whitney Houston at Stuttgart’s  sold out Schleyerhalle. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Jimmy’s Pub and Brasserie features a new local blues band, April 7 as Driving While Blind take the stage. There is no cover for that show.
Also on April 7 Bo Diddly’s is raising money for the Walk for MS. Double Jack and Gravity Crash will be playing. There is a $10 cover which will be donated to the MS Society of Canada.
