Kelowna road warriors the Wild are having a wild time on the road.
They bent a few ears with their debut single “Roadhouse” and just released “ Slow Burn,” the AC DC influenced second single off their upcoming EP, which will be released April 21.
But first, they return to Lethbridge with One Bad Son at Bo Diddly’s March 27.
Frontman/ guitarist Dylan Villain is excited about the self titled EP.
They pulled out all of the stops for the EP by recording three quarters of it in Warehouse studio in Vancouver which is owned by Bryan Adams and the other quarter in the Armouries Studio which is owned by renown producer Bruce Fairbairn.
They got Mike Fraser to produce and engineer it. It was mixed by Sterling Sound in New York City.
“ He’s worked on every AC DC album for the past 30 years,” enthused the Wild’s frontman/ guitarist Dylan Villain, enjoying three weeks of their latest tour in Ontario.
“He’s like family to us. He’s literally the fifth member of the Wild,” he said.
“He noted the Wild is influenced by AC DC.
“On the new single ‘ Slow Burn’ we even used Malcolm (Young)’s Gretsch and Angus (Young)’s SG,” he enthused adding the band’s ACD DC didn’t come from the guitars.
“ It was pretty cool. Guys like Bruce Fairbairn have a lot of gear. He has Jimmy Page stuff and Joe Perry stuff too. Guys will donate gear to him,” he said.
“ But we wrote these songs a long time before we recorded them. I grew up on AC DC. They’re my favourite band. I was raised on the blues. It’s in my blood it’s been there ever since I started playing and it will always be there,” he said.
They are excited to wind down their current tour in Lethbridge.
“You’ll be seeing a lot of energy. We’ve got some new songs and we always play at 150 miles an hour,” he said.
He is excited by the response “Slow Burn” has received.
“ We just released it nine days ago and it’s already nearing the Top 20. So it’s been pretty exciting to watch that,” he said.
“And we never set out to write a radio hit. Slow Burn is pretty bluesy. But most songwriters know when they write a song, if it has it,” he said adding they felt the same way when they released “Roadhouse.”
He noted the tour is going well.
“The crowds have been great. We’ll be playing Lethbridge and then a few date as around B.C. Then we’ll take a quick breather. The EP comes out April 21, so we’ll have a busy year with that,” he said.
“It’s great to be able to play and get a paycheque for it,” he said.
