Ears ringing from Finger Eleven and Head of the Herd, I stopped by the Owl Acoustic Lounge for something a little softer.

 So I was overjoyed to catch the end of Peterborough based folk and roots duo the Mayhemingways’ return to the Lounge, Monday, Oct. 26.

They had a Maritimes feel as multi-instrumentalist Benj Rowland and drummer Josh Fewings turned the Owl into a kitchen party for their intimately alert audience.

 There were plenty of vocal harmonies, lots of banjo, beautiful guitar and  steady drum beat. Rowland alternated between guitar, banjo and accordion all the while stomping out the rhythm on a set of bass pedals at his feet.

They told stories and cracked a few jokes and sang quirky, catchy, poetic lyrics about working hard, having fun  and spending your money on beer.
