Scratch Buffalo tap into the rawer side of the ’60s

Scratch Buffalo playing the Slice, Sept. 7. Photo by Richard AmeryWhile I missed local psychedelic rock band The Decadent Phase, I was in time for Calgary garage rock duo Scratch Buffalo.

They played an excellent , energetic set of raw, primal garage rock and punk. Vocalist/guitarist Chris Naish and drummer Mark Straub sounded like a two piece MC5 mixed with the White Stripes.

They played quite a few songs from their 2018 self-titled album, plus a new single “Shoot Me With your Kamera.”

But they also added a few ’60s garage rock and rock and roll classics like Gene Vincent’s  “ Be Bop a Lula.”
