Punk shows are a lot of fun, especially when Medicine Hat’s Western Death are involved.

I caught the last couple of their songs at the Owl Acoustic lounge, June 17.

I missed openers Bunny Eyes, but was in time to catch a set of high octane punk rock from Western Death.

They well in their cups by the time I arrived, but held it togehrer, blasting though a set of Black Flag, / SNFU inspired hardcore punk rock.

Quit It, who formed out of the ashes of Calgary Celtic-punks the River Jacks were trimmed down to a trio for this show.

They played a more straight ahead set of political punk rock. Their set was mostly originals, but they added an obscure Beastie Boys cover “Heart Attack Man”as well as a great cover of the Ramones’ “Bonzo Goes to Bitburg.”

They played the songs from their debut Ep including “ Let It Burn” and  their anti-kennel anthem “Wake Up”  which they followed up with the apt Ramones cover.

They had a lot of energy with plenty of leaping around and lots of big gang vocals to go with their ferocious attack.

They were called back for an encore, so they played a couple of RiverJacks songs.
