Upside downtown continued with Richard Inman’s band Fortune Block, Thursday, July 21.
I caught the second set, just as they were launching into a Turnpike Troubadours cover.
But most of their set was original music from their new CD “Might As Well Stay Home.”
Inman was backed by Sweet Alibi’s Amber Rose Nielsen adding extra acoustic guitar and beautiful vocal harmonies and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Peters.
Inman’s resonant baritone rumbled through Rotary Square outside of Casa and enraptured the audiences, enjoying the shade on a sweltering day
“ Hotdogs In Heaven,” was heartfelt tribute to John Prine and several of Inman and Neilsen’s influences.
She chuckled when Inman brought it to her, she “made it better.”
They also played a couple choice covers including Bruce Robison’s “Travelling Soldier,” and an obscure cover of Jonathan Byrd’s “ Clean” which closes the CD as well as closed their set.
Steven William Foord plays Rotary Square outside Casa for Upside Downtown, this Thursday, July 28.
