Get your folk and country on this week as there are several stupendous country and roots shows happening this week.

 First off, Luke James Bruce returns to  Mojo’s Pub on the west side to host their Monday night open mic, Sept. 19. His band the Plaid Ramblers play Casino Lethbridge, Friday and Saturday. They were also at the Lethbridge College’s Couleefest on the weekend.

 

Coda Lite play the blues at Spectrum Ale on Tuesday.

 Devin Gergel hosts the Slice’s open mic on Wednesday.

 

 If you missed Carter Felker at the Word on the Street on the weekend, don’t miss this super talented Calgary based country singer  at the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

 

 The Lethbridge Folk Club opens their season at the Lethbridge College  Cave  on Wednesday with Juno  and East Coast music Award winning East Coast  songwriter Lennie Gallant and Greg Herman. Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for non members, which includes a membership for the year. The music begins at 7 p.m.

The other big country show is “The Gift a tribute to Ian Tyson,” which  stops by the Southminster United Church, Friday, Sept. 23. The show features some of Tyson’s former sidemen plus special guests John Wort Hannam and singer Tracy Millar. Tickets are $40 in advance,  $45 at the door.

 

 For local roots music, it doesn’t get much better than Richard Inmann these days.  He returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge,  Friday, Sept. 23 with Joe Wilson.

The Owl Acoustic lounge has a screening of  The Art of Windy City, Saturday, Sept. 24 with music to follow.

 

 If country music isn’t your bag, then get ready to rock  at the Slice.

 

 Local punk band Berserker hit the stage with Edmonton’s  Medical Pilot and local punk band Switched Off, Sept. 22. The music starts at 9 p.m.

 

 The Slice welcomes back local rock band Suit Jacket Society and Calgary power pop band the Hi Tops plus Ol Ben Saturday, Sept. 24.

 

The Place has another big rock show on Friday, Sept. 23 with the Bridgette Yarwood band, local Tragically Hip tribute the Hip Trip and the Good Love band playing beginning at  7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

 

Over at Honkers Pub, local country rock band Train Wreck return to host Honkers Pub’s open mic on Friday, Sept. 23 . A rescheduled Duelling Pianos show with Cal Toth and Anna McBryan is  Saturday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.

 The roots music continues with a special early week show at the Owl Acoustic lounge with Zachary Lucky, who hits the Owl stage on Monday, Sept. 26.

 

 For Comedy, Alex Biron returns to Good Times Friday and Saturday.

 This is also the last week to catch New West Theatre’s production of Next To Normal at the Yates Theatre.
