Arts Days  has changed for 2020 due to Covid-19.
The biggest change is most of the the live events are outside.

The popular celebration of the arts kicks off this week with a virtual Word on the Street, but  the usual bevy of activities has been somewhat limited due to Covid 19 health restrictions.Arianna Richardson will be part of Arts Days 2020. Photo by Richard Amery

The annual  Allied Arts Council cabaret featuring emerging artists is now going to be streamed online instead of live shows at Casa.

However there will still be a variety of activities happening downtown,  Sept. 24-27.

“We really get to showcase this community over a week in the downtown. There’s a lot of visual art this year,” said Allied Arts Council communications manager Kelaine Devine.

There will be a pop up gallery: Unexpected Intersections, Sept. 26-Oct. 4 at 705-2 Ave South.
“ It’s salon style with a set entrance and exit,” she said.

Artists Arianna Richardson and Claire Reed  will also be at work at the Casa kiosks, Sept. 24-27, which will be part of the Sept. 26 gallery stroll and Family Affair on the Square, Sept. 27.

The Gallery stroll includes familiar stops at SAAG and Casa among others.
Visual artists will also be painting window fronts in the downtown core, Sept. 25-27.
There will also be a variety of  buskers performing downtown, Sept. 25-26 featuring  The Taiko Drummers,  Troyanda Ukrainian Dancers, Mi Colombian Dance troupe and numerous other individual performers.
As always, ArtsDays conclude with  Family Affair on the Square, from noon-3 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Performers include local Sharon Lewis and Bram tribute Karen, Lois and Pam.  Eric Dyck will be  creating his cartoons on site.

“ It‘s a very family friendly event,” Devine said, noting safety is paramount for all ArtsDays events.

“ It’s important that this is a safe celebration of the arts,” she said.

“ We’re excited about ArtsDays this year,” she said.
