Local orchestra the Contemporary Works Jazz Orchestra welcome special guest trombonist Allen Jacobson.

Allen Jacobson is a Trombonist/Vocalist/Composer/Arranger/Educator who has performed throughout Canada and internationally for many years. During the course of his career he has established a reputation as an outstanding performer and educator.

Allen Jacobson has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic (Conductor & Soloist), the European Philharmonic (Conductor & Soloist), the Citadel Theatre, Tommy Banks Big Band, The Joan Rivers, Rich Little and Red Skelton Shows European productions of Cats, Chicago and Cabaret, West Side Story, The EdJE (the JUNO nominated Edmonton Jazz Ensemble), filmscores, jingles, modern dance collaborations and numerous commercial recordings.

Al was 1st/Jazz Trombonist (15 years) with the Tommy Banlks Big Band/Orchestra, a nationally (Canada) acclaimed performing, touring and recording ensemble. He has been heard on national and regional Television and Radio programs both as a soloist and ensemble performer.

Mr. Jacobson has performed in a wide variety of musical contexts including Theatrical, Symphonic, Mainstream Jezz, Contemporary Pop, Afro-Cuban, Latin Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Modern Dance, Avant Garde/Free Improvisation and numerous others and has performed at Jazz and World Music Festivals throughout Canada and in Europe, Scandinavia and Asia.

Al has performed with Dave Liebman, Conte Candoli, Keith Copland, Lee Konitz, Lew Tabakin, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew, Harry Beckett, Ack van Royen, John Tchicai, Christopher Dell, Karl Berger, Wolfgang Puschnig, Tony Lakats, Günther Lenz, Ivo Vander Borght, The Frankfurt Jazz Big Band, HR Big Band, among others.

As an educator, Mr. Jacobson has many years of experience as an adjudicator, providing workshops/seminars and in private teaching. He has provided workshops/seminars to schools, Colleges and Universities throughout Western Canada and Germany. He currently teches Jazz Trombone, Vocals and Ensemble at the Gutenberg University of Mainz, and Jazz Trombone, Vocals, Ensemble and Big Band at the Frankfurt Musik Hochschule (University of Performing Arts). Mr. Jacobson has also been on the faculty of the Peter-Cornelius Conservatory (Mainz) and at the Mannheim University of Performing Arts.
