“Bridge Bells: Reprise” is a bit like a high school reunion: old friends getting together to reminisce, have fun, and in this case, make music.
“Bridge Bells: Reprise” came about as a result of a conversation between Maestro Glenn Klassen and Mary Lee Voort over a year ago.  Maestro Klassen, having heard that Southminster United Church was getting its handbell program underway again, asked Mary Lee if the bell choir would be willing to participate in the LSO’s Christmas concert in 2011.  Mary Lee, knowing that her group would be starting from scratch as beginners, said they wouldn’t be ready, but that she knew ringers in the city who would welcome the chance to perform with the symphony.  “Bridge Bells: Reprise” was born.
This handbell choir is made up of ringers from churches in and around Lethbridge; these musicians all either ring in or direct their own handbell groups.  Each ringer has anywhere from 18 to 30 years of ringing experience, many of them ringing in “Southminster Ringers” under Harry Janzen and “Bridge Bells” under Barbara Walker in the 80′s and 90′s (hence the “Reprise.”)  They have been working hard since September to put this program together, and they would like to thank Maestro Klassen and the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra for this opportunity to “ring in” the Christmas season in such a special way.
“Bridge Bells: Reprise” would also like to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to Southminster United Church for the use of its 4-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells and rehearsal space, and to Park Meadows Elementary School for the use of additional bells and equipment.
