Jaimee Jarvie returns to the stage in music by Debussy, and renowned Schubert Scholar Brian Black plays the Viennese master's Op. 90 Impromptus. Bente Hansen will be featured in a rare live performance of the entire Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album by The Beatles in a new version for two pianos.
 Jaimee Jarvie
Born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, Jaimee began singing at the age of four. In 2013, she graduated with a B.Mus. in Vocal Performance from the University of Lethbridge, where she studied under the direction of Dr. Janet Youngdahl. Roles at the University include Apollonia (La Canterina), Sally (A Hand of Bridge), First Spirit (Die Zauberflöte), and Adele (Die Fledermaus). In 2012, Jaimee was the chorus master for the University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop's production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. In 2013, Jaimee travelled to Cork, Ireland with the University of Lethbridge Singers to partake in the Cork International Choral Festival. She has also toured Europe and North America with the LCI Chamber and Jazz choirs. Last summer, Jaimee had the privelege of being selected as one of the twelve singers to take part in the Vancouver Early Music Festival's Baroque Compleat Singer program, where she worked closely with Ellen Hargis, Lucas Harris, Michael Jarvis and Steven Adby. In the fall of 2013, Jaimee sang the soprano solo in Faure's Requiem with the U of L Singers, U of L Women's chorus, Vox Musica and members of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. Jaimee looks forward to furthering her career in the field of early music, and is hoping to move overseas to complete a masters degree.

 Brian Black

A native of Montreal, Brian Black has been professor of music history at the University of Lethbridge since the fall of 2000. He earned his Bachelor of Music in performance from McGill University, studying under the noted collaborative pianist, Charles Reiner. He then pursued further studies in performance in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Brigitte Wild, Claudio Arrau’s first student and his assistant at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. After finishing the Guildhall’s certificate of advanced solo studies he earned the Associate diploma of the Royal College of Music and the Licentiate of the Guildhall School. Shortly after his return to Montreal, he turned to musicology, taking his Ph.D at McGill under the well-known theorist William Caplin with his dissertation on the early string quartets of Franz Schubert. Brian has performed in northern England, Montreal, London, on Radio Canada (the French arm of the CBC) and here in Lethbridge. He is probably more familiar, though, for his pre-concert talks for various concerts around town.

 Bente Hansen

Bente Hansen is ecstatic to be a part of the premiere Centric Festival. After completing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (studying with Elinor Lawson), Bente went to Michigan State where she studied with Ralph Votapek (winner of the first Van Cliburn competition in 1962). She received a Masters of Music and went on to pursue a doctorate but life got in the way. She came home to Lethbridge in 1993 and became active in Musical Theatre, still a very large part of her life. She's been teaching Music Theory and Popular Music classes at the University of Lethbridge since 1997, where she enjoys an active performance schedule as well. Bente has just finished acting as Musical Director for the Hatrix/Danceworks production of "Spamalot" and can be seen as the resident keyboardist for the local professional company New West Theatre. Bente and Jesse have been duo piano partners for six years. Bente hope you will enjoy the festival and will be wowed by Sgt. Pepper's.

 Jesse Plessis

Pianist and composer Jesse Plessis obtained a Master of Music degree (Performance and Literature) in 2013 from Brandon University where he studied piano with Megumi Masaki and composition with Patrick Carrabre. His Bachelor of Music degree is from the University of Lethbridge where he studied piano with Deanna Oye and composition with Arlan Schultz and Rolf Boon. He is extremely excited and honoured to both curate and host this absolutely unique musical experience in Lethbridge, Alberta. Plessis has been awarded numerous prizes both in piano and composition, and has been hailed as having "a skillful hand at crafting textures that pulse with life" (Winnipeg Free Press). He has shared the stage with several distinguished ensembles including the Musaeus String Quartet, members of the Land’s End Chamber Ensemble, and the International Piano Ensemble. He has had the opportunity to give the Canadian premieres of works by Marcel Bergmann, Kaija Saariaho, John Corigliano, Nico Muhly, and Kjartan Olafsson. He has appeared on stages across Canada, England, Austria, Germany, and Italy - recent performances include those with New West Theatre, at the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy, the Dark Music Days Festival in Iceland, at the Banff Centre, and the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.A sometime conductor, Plessis has directed performances with the Brandon University New Music Ensemble, the Brandon University Orchestra, and several musical theatre productions

Casa is the realization of a 20 year dream, shared by many in the Lethbridge arts community, to expand or replace the Bowman Arts Centre. This unique new facility far surpasses the original vision for expansion, and sets a new standard for interdisciplinary arts centres. It is about experimentation, incubation, learning and growing. Casa was built to serve a multi-generational community, with varying art skill sets and interests in all disciplines of the arts.

Designing the building was a comprehensive and collaborative process led by Nyhoff Architecture from (Calgary) working in conjunction with the local architectural firm of Ferrari Westwood Babits. The Architectural team visited numerous arts education institutions and also met with members of the local arts community to define requirements for a truly functional 42,000 square foot art centre. The resulting building design is truly impressive.

Funding for the project were provided by the Federal Build Canada Fund ($6,000,000.), the Provincial MSI Fund ($14,900,000.) and the City of Lethbridge ($200,000).
