The Lethbridge Symphony presents its 7th Annual Love Notes fundraising gala on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at CASA. This year’s theme is The Phantom’s Ball, and recalls the elegance of the Belle Époque setting of the legendary Phantom of the Opera.

The evening begins with a champagne reception at 5:30 PM, followed by a 5-course dinner. Guests will be entertained by opera singers and dance to the ‘Music of the Night’, performed live by the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra (LSO). Live and silent auction items include flights, vacations and an opportunity to conduct the orchestra at a live performance. Guests are encouraged to dress in period attire, including Phantom masks.

Last year’s sold out event – set in the Great Gatsby Mansion – marked the first year in this new venue, and it was so exciting,” notes co-chair Lorna Peacock. “Our new theme offers new opportunities to create a memorable evening for our guests and to raise funds for the LSO, which is a treasure in our community. So this year, join us at the Paris Opera House!”

The LSO is now in its 54th Season and is one of the most established arts organizations in Southern Alberta. The Symphony performs a wide range of music for the community, from symphonic classics to film scores, from operas and musicals to world premieres, from chamber music to concerts specifically designed for children. Professional artists, accomplished community musicians, aspiring professionals from our university, and schoolchildren are given the opportunity to stand in the spotlight and share their musical talents. The funds raised at Love Notes will ensure that the Symphony continues to produce exceptional quality performances and fine educational programs.

There are many ways for our community to participate in this event. We are 80% sold, but there is still time to get a ticket and get in on the fun,” notes co-chair Irene Penner. “At the event, we will have a beautiful silent and live auction that will include travel and dining packages. Foster and Sons Jewellers have donated two beautiful Raymond Weil watches valued at nearly $5,000 for our raffle, and $50 tickets are available before and during the event. The watches are gorgeous. And with dinner, dancing and a wonderful atmosphere for all, it will be a night to remember!”

Raffle tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by calling (403.328.6808) or visiting the Lethbridge Symphony office (424 – 7 Street South) from Monday to Friday, 1 – 5 PM. Dinner tickets are $150 each and are available online anytime (ow.ly/HIOC9) or through the Lethbridge Symphony office.

Casa is the realization of a 20 year dream, shared by many in the Lethbridge arts community, to expand or replace the Bowman Arts Centre. This unique new facility far surpasses the original vision for expansion, and sets a new standard for interdisciplinary arts centres. It is about experimentation, incubation, learning and growing. Casa was built to serve a multi-generational community, with varying art skill sets and interests in all disciplines of the arts.

Designing the building was a comprehensive and collaborative process led by Nyhoff Architecture from (Calgary) working in conjunction with the local architectural firm of Ferrari Westwood Babits. The Architectural team visited numerous arts education institutions and also met with members of the local arts community to define requirements for a truly functional 42,000 square foot art centre. The resulting building design is truly impressive.

Funding for the project were provided by the Federal Build Canada Fund ($6,000,000.), the Provincial MSI Fund ($14,900,000.) and the City of Lethbridge ($200,000).
