The Backhomes are a two-piece psych pop band formed by Kees Dekker (The Besnard Lakes) and Aimée van Drimmelen (Key of K) in Montreal QC, 2009.
In 2010 the duo pulled up roots to move west, settling first in a cabin on the prairies for a long cold winter of writing and recording. The next spring they moved to a small house in Victoria BC, completing their debut release ONLY FRIEND (2013), and EP TALK B/W BACKWARDS SUNSHINE (2014) entirely in their living room.
The Backhomes’ music ranges from hypnotic psychedelic pop pioneered by The Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized, to the minimal pulse and tonal bliss of 70’s German Kosmische Musik. Live shows feature hypnotic projections created by van Drimmelen, also an artist and animator.
The Backhomes have toured North America and shared the stage with such bands as Dead Meadow, Suuns, Moon Duo, and The Vacant Lots. Their second full length album TIDALWAVE will be available May 2015.

astral swans is the solo project of Calgary, experimental pop musician, matthew swann (extra happy ghost!!!, hot little rocket). equally inspired by 60's folk, no wave, and 90's sludge, astral swans is at once: haunting, sincere, psychedelic, and strange. (picture nick drake, syd barret, and vashti bunyan, interpreted via sonic youth, guided by voices, suicide, and eric's trip)

Matthew Swann recently had a nightmare that he turned into a bucket of straw. He had another in which he saw the universe as constructed of tiny, conscious, malevolent, atoms. The first was dissociated, and impersonal. The second was paranoid. Both were highly distressing. Matthew Swann plays experimental folk music under the name, astral swans. He lives in Calgary, Alberta with a talking horse, constructed from malevolent atoms that eats straw.
