Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta as its favourite husband and wife rock duo, I Am Machi is the 1-2-1-2 collision of two best friends
who have uber crushes on each other. They got super married this one
time, and now they go on adventures and make music together! With
Jileane wailing on the drums like a reincarnated Lady Bonham, Nathan on
guitars moving in and out of the music like a bad dream, and both
sharing vocal duties, I Am Machi produces a sound that is thick and
filling like cowboy coffee.
Founded in the Spring of 2012 with a
minimalist "let's work with what we have" mentality, I Am Machi was
quick to release their debut EP, Mammal Pants, later that fall. After
the release, they began to carve up a name for themselves in the
Edmonton and Alberta bar circuit and festival scene. Playing the
renowned Sasquatch Gathering, as well as Edmonton's inaugural Up +
Downtown Music & Arts Festival with The Wet Secrets, Hot Panda, and
Slow Down Molasses.
I Am Machi continued to play in and around
Alberta for much of 2013, which saw the band share the stage with many
well-known Canadian and International acts such as Joel Plaskett, The
Pack A.D., The Crackling (comprised of members from Dan Mangan's touring
band), as well as Icelandic musicians, Sin Fang and Lay Low.
After spending most of the winter of 2013 writing and recording, I Am
Machi released their second EP, Slew: A record exploring what it is to
find beauty in desolate places. The band also embarked on their first
Western Canada "Hear In The Slew Tour" to promote their new EP, playing
throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
Now, as
2014 draws to a close, I Am Machi is hard at work writing their first
full length LP as well as planning a 2015 cross-Canada spring tour with
co-shinanaganizer and story teller, Colin Close.
With many new
and exciting things on the horizon, and an ever-growing following, the
future looks promising for these beautifully heavy sweethearts!
