It began in 2005 when Kristen Cudmore decided to play a showcase fundraiser in Whistler BC. This was her first time performing original music. People were expecting to hear a singer/ songwriter style but instead the beat dropped, her guitar strings were plucked, as if to perform a classical piece, and she started to rap along side a stand up bass. The reaction: people did not get what they expected but they were happy about it!

Moments after performing so nervously, Kristen was asked to play again in the 2005 Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival along side some other local talents in opening for Xavier Rudd, she had to say yes!

In June of 2005, the name Language-Arts was decided, just in time for Vancouver\'s \'Music Waste Festival\' and a group was assembled.
\"Vancouver indie ground breakers Language-Arts, for rarely are we treated to an act so unique and cutting edge...\" announces 24 Hours Magazine (Vancouver BC). Language-Arts were invited to play at the Halifax Pop Explosion 2006, where Kristen played solo with her live sampler, songs that were yet to be released on her debut CD. \"The playing was expert, not over indulged,\" says The Coast Magazine (Halifax NS) and in another article continues... \"You can hear careful crafting in the words and their delivery.\" The year continued with a short tour to Nova Scotia, where Kristen is from, then L-A began recording a new CD. Finally 2006 was wrapped it up with a tour of Vancouver Island right before Christmas.
