“Don’t stop, no turning back.” It’s the memorable refrain from Towers and Trees’ powerhouse new single FREE, and a fitting mantra for a group nearly three years into their journey and celebrating their biggest milestone yet: the release of their new full-length album, The West Coast.
The Victoria indie rock collective has certainly been busy since they burst onto the BC scene with their debut Broken Record EP (2013). Their live show has been called “spectacular” (Exclaim.ca) and “one of the greatest shows I have ever witnessed” (Jon Williams, the Zone). Since being named the Zone @ 91.3’s Band of the Month and a finalist in the 2013 PEAK Performance Project, they have amassed a steady stream of achievements that include commercial, college and CBC radio play, award nominations, licensing deals, festival bookings, sold-out shows and most recently a Canada-wide tour topped by a capacity showcase at Canadian Music Week (CMW) in Toronto.
It’s a remarkable trajectory for what began as a no-budget home recording project by charismatic lead singer-songwriter Adrian Chalifour, with the simple vision of rediscovering the joy of music. You can hear and see it in the gorgeous music video for the album’s title track West Coast, which premiered on Exclaim.ca, but this time it is bolstered by a bold, rich studio sound forged with producer/engineer Alex Aligizakis (Bend Sinister, We hunt Buffalo).
The West Coast is an ambitious and deeply personal album, one that declares its belief in love even in the midst of losing it. It is reflective yet tenaciously forward-looking, not unlike this guiding mantra: don’t stop, no turning back.

Owl is Lethbridge’s newest Lounge in the same building which had Mood, Squeaky’s Pub before and O Riley’s before that. They feature live acoustic music and excellent food. |
