A busy week for me started Tuesday, April 19 at the Geomatic Attic with Vancouver based world musician Alpha Yaya 
Diallo.
He played an upbeat, energetic show which showed why the Geomatic Attic needs to open up a dance floor for some of their shows.
Even though Diallo was blocked by a set of bongo drums set at the front of the stage, he displayed some stunning flamenco/ classical/ African acoustic guitar licks while the rest of his band, a drummer, a bassist, a percussionist and a percussionist / dancer kept the beat and the groove going and the energy levels high.
The audience of approximately 50 people, which included a lot of newcomers to the Geomatic Attic, including numerous people from 10,000 Villages, were enjoying themselves, nodding their heads and tapping their feet.
He began the set by playing an up tempo Gipsy Kings style flamenco number on his delay heavy guitar.
He spoke little to the audience, other than to say the title of his new CD ‘Immé’ was interpreted as “Get off your ass,” and encouraged the audience to do just that.
His dancer was impressive, beaming and flailing in time to the unstoppable reggae infused rhythm.
He stepped back from behind the bongos to let his band shine at an assortment of solos and to add his own.
He wound up his first set by convincing the crowd to sing along.
