August exits with a blast this week.
There are several great shows happening ranging from country to punk music.

On the country and The Ruby Plumes open for What’s Wrong Tohei? this week. Photo by Richard Ameryroots side of things, one man band Johnny Good returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge on Aug. 29. He blends pop music with rockabilly and lots of samples into his music. Also returning to Lethbridge, Toronto based roots/ country musician Sarah Burton will be performing as a duo with Darcy Windover on Aug. 29. Calgary based alternative folk musician Savk returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge this week as well on Aug. 31.

Also on the folk side of things, The Bryant/Watson Duo play Ric’s Grill on Aug. 28 and Aug. 30.
If you like the blues and harp playing, Juno nominated and Maple Blues award winning Toronto bluesman Paul Reddick will blow you away at the Slice, Aug. 31. He is touring in support of his seventh CD “Wishbone” which was released last year.

The Slice ends August with an excellent punk and garage rock show, Aug. 31 with Vancouver’s punk/ math rock trio What’s Wrong Tohei? plus Lethbridge’s the Ruby Plumes and Chief Mountain. There is a five dollar cover for the show.

If want to bang your head even more, local metal band Caste of Shadows and guests will be playing Jimmy’s Pub and Brasserie on Aug. 31 as well.

For something a little more mellow, Cowboy Jazz plays Casino Lethbridge Aug. 30 and 31 while the Mocha Cabana has the Herb Hicks Jazz Quartet.

The Slice has a variety of events this week as well.
Their big show is on Thursday, Aug. 29 when Bloomington, Indiana roots rock band Murder By Death return to the Slice. They are bringing Minneapolis roots rockers The 4 on the Floor. There is a $20 cover for the show.

For something completely different, the Slice host Snapbacks and Throwbacks’ very first Hip Hop karaoke competition on Aug. 28. 10 performers must pre-register to compete for prizes. There will be no TV screens or cheat sheets, so performers must rap by memory. The show begins at 9 p.m.

This is also the last week open mic at  the Trianon on Thursday as well. So check it out if you haven’t been to one yet.
Kurt Ciesla, Brad Brouwer and Shaela Miller host the jam at the Slice tonight. It will be an unofficial memorial for local musician Randy Shaver who passed away this week. It begins at 9 p.m.
