It is another solid week for metal music with several metal shows happening this week. First up, on Aug. 6 female fronted Calgary Street punks Black Earth will be playing Inferno, Aug. 6 with B.C. area funk, rock and blues band MG Graveyard plus Calgary metal band Lie Among Us. There is a $10 cover for the show, which begins at 8 p.m.
The next day, Aug. 7 Inferno hosts another big metal show with local alternative metal band Accalia, groove metal band Caste of Shadows and hard rock/ punk influenced band Quick Draw. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. There is a five dollar cover.
Inferno will also have Sunday night metal show, Aug. 9 with Dutch skate punk group Antillectual, Winnipeg punk rock band Clipwing and Saskatoon hardcore band Silent Era. Doors open at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.
The Slice also has a metal show, Aug. 7 featuring Edmonton melodic death metal band Eyes of Horus, local death metal band The Avulsion, Winnipeg death metal band Tyrants Demise and Medicine Hat’s Crease. It will be an early show with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the bands starting at 8:30 p.m. There is a $10 cover for the show.
There is also a lot to offer this week for those with more mellow tastes. If you you want to dance, Montreal based pop/ R and B singer Karl Wolf visits Inferno, Aug 8 with special guests Kyle Pyke and Vasco. Tickets cost $20 in advance for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
The Slice also brings in some beautiful blues music this week with Montreal based blues/ soul/ R and B influenced musician Cecile Doo-Kingué, Aug. 6. She will rock the house blues style with drummer Anthony Pageot and bassist Pierre Desmarias as part of her Is Anybody Listening tour.
And, for a special treat, if rockabilly makes you want to move your feet, Calgary’s the Hi Strung Downers will bring all the twang you need to Casino Lethbridge, Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. They play at 8 p.m. each night. There is no cover for the shows.
And The Blue Ridge Mountain Country Society country jams are now at the Moose Hall on the second Sunday of the month, so the next one is Aug. 9.
Last, but not least, Edmonton folk and roots musician Scott Cook and his band will stop by the Slice to host their Aug. 10 open mic this week as well.
