Rock in 2024 with a plethora of live music this week

Get ready rock in 2024 with a whole lot of  great shows, but soothe the post-Christmas hangover first with some smooth jazz music.

 The Standard Time Duo aka Don Robb and Randy Epp return to the Watertower Grill to get a little mellow on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 6-8 p.m. 

 Also on Wednesday, Terri Petz hosts  the Owl Acoustic lounge’s monthly poetry open mic to wind up the year.

HBO3  plus saxophonists Ryan Heseltine and  Michael Carter host the last jazz jam of the year in Thursday, Dec. 28.

The Owl Acoustic Lounge  rocks with The Rainbow Patrol on Dec. 29.

 

The Owl goes country with  Kevin Peters and Burnt Edges, who have been playing twangy country music in Lethbridge a lot this year.

 Theoretically  Brewing is closed until Jan. 10 for the holidays and for renovations, so there will be no open mic this week.

 Kyle Bischke  hosts the last open mic of 2023 at Honker’s Pub, Friday, Dec. 29.

Aptly for the holiday season, Calgary based, Lethbridge raised comedian Conner Christmas is recording a comedy special at Good Times, Dec. 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. each night. Brent Hutchinson will be the host and Faris Hytiaa and Randy Webb will be performing. Tickets are $19.95.

 

 There is a variety of music  happening  this weekend.

 Richard Inman and his band return to the Slice, Friday, Dec. 29  to play heartfelt original outlaw style country music.

The next day, local hard rock favourites Queen of the Worms play their annual pre-New Years show at thew Slice on Dec. 30

If you stull haven’t had enought Chrismas cheer, New West Theatre and The Enmax Centre’s  heartfelt and moving co-production of Elf: The Musical, runs unttil Dec. 31.

You might want to save your shekels and some of your liver , because New Year’s Eve falls on a Sunday this year.

  If you like your New Year’s Eve loud,  then bang your head  all night long ’80s style with a fantastic local Iron Maiden Tribute — 664_the Neighbour of the Beast returns to rock in New Year’s Eve at the Slice, Dec. 31.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

 

If you like your New Year’s eve funky and would rather  stomp your feet instead of bang your head, then get ready to dance with Adequate at the Owl Acoustic lounge, Dec. 31. Admission is by donation.

 Adequate will also be opening for Hippodrome at the Slice on Jan, 6 for Pardip Atwal’s birthday party.

Local  favourites Uncovered  ring in the new year at their usual haunt — Pop”s Pub South, Dec. 31. Admission is by donation.

The Bow City Underground return to the 1010 Pub to celebrate  the new year with rock, blues , country and much more. There is a $10 cover for the show.

Casino Lethbridge has a busy weekend with the Bamboo Guppies performing Friday and Saturday.

 They have a special New Year’s Eve show with Peter And  the Wolves . If you want to rock in the new year ’50s style, tickets are $89.99 including  a buffet dunner, including prime rib, charcuterie board with roast beef, turkey , ham and more. Dinner is at 6 p.m. 

Peter and the Wolves rock like the Wolfman said, at 9 p.m.

 

 The Bamboo Guppies have a busy weekend as they are also playing The Italian Canadian Club’s New Year’s Eve spread beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is at 7:30 p.m.

The Bamboo Guppies will be bringing the post feast party. Tickets are $65.23 through Eventbrite or $60  if purchased in advance in person.

LA Chefs annual New Year’s bash at the Coast Hotel features local jazz band Midnight Channel playing dinner music at 7 p.m.  Suite 33 will be rocking the night away the right way into 2024. Tickets are $99 per person through Eventbrite. The show is in support of the United Way.


 

 Somewhere in between, the Plaid Ramblers play a mix of rock and country at the Place for New Year’s Eve. There is no cover for that show.

 It is already looking up in the new year as  Winnipeg folk punk musician Greg Rekus returns to the Owl Acoustic Lounge, Jan. 2  with Tim Holehouse to host the first open mic of the new year.
