 Quit The City http://standstillproductions.net/quit-the-city/

Quit The City is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Formed in Calgary, Alberta in late 2009 by founding members Ryley Campbell (vocals, guitar), and Colin McDonald (vocals, guitar), the duo began writing songs and developing their sound together. Joining forces with two local Calgary musicians, Quit The City began playing shows and building a following in Calgary during the early months of 2010, as well as being featured on the 272 records release “Riot on Sunset.”

Shortly thereafter, an opportunity arose for the band to relocate to Vancouver to work with producer/Engineer Brody Mudryk (Conscience) of Standstill Productions. The founding members made the move to the coast and began work on Quit The City's debut album, which has been described as “a mix of psychedelic rock with hints of southern and grunge sounds.”
With recording of their album nearing completion, Quit The City added two new members in Liam Worthington, and Dan Whittal on bass and drums respectively. Now a quartet once again, the band was swiftly picked up by Standstill Records in anticipation of their 2012 release. This year promises to be an exciting year for the band as their debut album will be released, followed by Canadian tour plans with upcoming dates to be announced.

My Mother The Carjacker’s follow-through in creating music has always been a natural one. It’s all about having fun.

When the band first started jamming in 2009, genre was thrown out the window and all that was focused on was letting their inner energies flow with each other and projecting the end result to the audience.

The band’s June 2012 debut release is a recent snapshot on the band’s ongoing celebration of the world of music. The 7-track self-titled album flows through 7 different moods, featuring both full band and acoustic arrangements. Producer Brody Mudryk (also of upcoming hip-hop group, Conscience) recorded, produced, and the album with the band at Standstill Productions Studios.

While the spirit of MMCJ's music is deeply rooted in the vein of punk, rock, jam and grunge (Primus, System of a Down, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Rise Against, System of a Down, Ninjaspy), but the songwriters are unafraid of melding any form of music into their songs as long as it's enjoyable, accessible and feels good. Jazz, funk, grunge and 30's big band mixed together? No problem. Drum’n’bass influenced hard rock infused with ska interludes? You got it. Straight up alternative rock? Hey, that's fun too! But no matter what, songwriting is key.

Songs on the album like “Butterfly” and “Boppin’ 50’s Death Song” show the band’s irreverent humour and jam-like approach, while songs like “Circustime” or “Haunted” have darker undertones. The band’s leading single, “The Nate”, features some of the band’s more straight-forward alternative sound and will be accompanied by a feature music video following the album release. The constant shift in moods undeniably translate to an unforgettable live show, but always maintains an energetic vibe akin to Primus, Ninjaspy, or Five Alarm Funk.

As of late spring 2012, MMCJ have accumulated a growing fan base in the local scene and are fixated on achieving their goals. The band is gearing up for a Western Canada tour with Quit The City this summer, and are already 2 albums deep in their basket of songs. Recording a new full length is slated for mid-2013, as well as many more shows to showcase their growing catalogue of diverse music.
