The Most Vocal Poets Society present slam poet Andrea Thompson. She is described as being political, provocative, passionate, belly driven and Trnsformative. She is also  in the University of Lethbridge Student’s Union Building at 3 p.m. in room 063.

Andrea Thompson is one of the most well known poets in the Canadian spoken word scene.   A popular performer at venues and festivals across North America, Thompson’s work has been featured on film, radio, and television; and included in magazines, literary journals and anthologies across Canada.

Thompson’s debut collection, Eating the Seed (Ekstasis Editions, 2000), has been featured on the reading list at the University of Toronto, and at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and her spoken word CD One, was nominated for a Canadian Urban Music Award in 2005.
One of the pioneers of the SLAM poetry scene in Canada, Thompson’s performances are electric and unique – blending elements of jazz, dub, hip-hop and traditional literary verse into a style all her own.

Working in a variety of forms, Thompson is the host of season two of the thirteen part television series, Heart of a Poet (Bravo TV, 2007), was co-host of CiTr radio's half hour spoken word show, Hearsay, and as Executive Director of the Edgewise Electrolit Centre, hosted and produced Telepoetics, a video-conferenced live poetry series in Vancouver.

Andrea’s performances have been featured in the film Slam Nation, on Bravo TV's Planet Poetry, TVO’s Imprint, Carolyn Weaver’s BioLibrary and on a variety of CBC radio programs.

Thompson is also a regular visitor to secondary and post secondary schools across the country, where she works with youth, using writing and performance to help improve their literacy, confidence, communication, and self-esteem.

In 2008, Thompson completed her tour of Fringe Festivals across the country, with her one woman show, "Mating Rituals of the Urban Cougar".  Thompson also writes author profiles for Toronto’s Sway Magazine, and is a founding member of the Spoken Word Arts Network, formed in association with the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2005.
